In Photos: 12 Hours Inside the Harvard Yard Occupation

Pro-Palestine students occupied Harvard Yard in an encampment beginning Wednesday at noon. The protest comes just two days after Harvard College suspended the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee – while universities across the country have also faced a wave of pro-Palestinian student demonstrations. Crimson photographers documented the first 12 hours of the encampment.

Harvard affiliates across campus stepped outside Monday afternoon to witness a near-total solar eclipse — the first visible from North America since 2017.  The next total solar eclipse to pass through the continent will not occur until 2044.

Students braved the cold on Sunday, gathering in Tercentenary Theatre for Yardfest, the College’s annual spring concert. Student openers, NOTD, and headliner Tinashe took the stage for an evening of music, dancing, and festivities.

Harvard graduates from historically marginalized groups attended affinity celebrations on Monday and Tuesday, prior to Thursday Commencement exercises. At the ceremonies, students received a stole or commemorative gift created for their affinity group.
